Moritz Kirsch received his M.Sc. in Geology from the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany, in 2008 and his Ph.D. from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 2012. Since 2016, he has been working as a research associate at the Helmholtz-Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF), Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, where he leads a group focused on Innovative Applications in the Department of Exploration. His research interests lie at the intersection of geology and technology, leveraging the latest digital tools, such as hyperspectral imaging and 3D modelling, to characterise mineral assemblages and understand geological processes.
