After studying civil engineering and geophysics in Karlsruhe and Munich, Dr. Andreas M. Schäfer finished his PhD on global tsunami risk model in 2018. Since then, he took on a lead role in various research projects to develop tools and methodologies for risk and resilience. He is also the coordinator of the Forensic Disaster Analysis group at the Center for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction Technology and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
In 2014, he co-founded Risklayer GmbH consulting on disaster and climate risk analytics for the public and private sector and developing B2B products to enhance resilience against future calamities. His primary focus is on the development of global hazard and risk models and customer software development. Together with his colleagues, he co-created Hotel Resilient, an initiative and online toolbox to assess and build resilience in the tourism industry.
